The new BMW M1 Hommage was a surprise debutant at the Concorso d’Eleganza 2008 di Villa d’Este this weekend. No prizes for guessing what it is: this is an official concept car to mark the 30th anniversary of the original M1 supercar. The Hommage is a clever reinterpretation of the 1978 coupe, bristling with echoes of the original.
Welcome back to the Race Organizer Review series, in which I plunge new cars into the weird and demanding world of a traveling race official with the 24 Hours of LeMons road-racing series. Just like all the ‘premium’ car makers, Porsche has a division that deals with special requests; extras and plans that fall outside the normal options list – Porsche Exclusive. Porsche Exclusive offers a level of personalisation that goes way beyond what the regular options list offers and, in Porsche’s own words, the “…possibilities for personalisation are almost endless”. With that in mind, Porsche Hatfield has commissioned Porshe Exclusive to build just five 911 Carrera 4S cars for the UK, with carefully understated customisations to paintwork and interior, and a smattering of Union Jacks – just to make sure these are ‘British’ 911s.
